Statutes of Križevci
The only written rules of good manners at the table, mentioned since the 18th century, without which real fun and festivities were hard to imagine. According to the Statutes, three toasts must be held in every society: “a toast to the homeland, friends and the fairer sex“, and the old, “digital” way of speaking was nurtured when pronouncing it.
The Križevci statutes primarily advocate joy and happiness in a good society where friendships and good interpersonal relationships are spread, but they explicitly warn that consuming wine and spirits is done wisely, because everything that is done excessively is not good for the individual, and for the society.
